What Is COMPAS

The Council of Metropolitan Police and Sheriffs (COMPAS) is a non-partisan advocacy organization that represents the largest law enforcement guilds in Washington State. COMPAS only represents currently-commissioned law enforcement officers. Most of our work focuses on legislation that protects or enhances pension benefits for our members and their families. However, we also monitor and work on a variety of areas that affect our members. In addition to pension issues, we also follow legislation involving collective bargaining, criminal laws and procedures, L&I issues, and survivor issues (affecting families of fallen officers).

We value member involvement and we require all of the organizations that COMPAS represents to stay involved in the legislative process. Members are often called to attend legislative hearings, to testify in front of a legislative committee, or to call or email their elected officials. COMPAS believes that the best way to advocate on behalf of its members is to establish relationships with policy-makers so they may view our law enforcement groups as resources.

COMPAS opens its membership to all active duty law enforcement guilds or unions. We welcome the opportunity to work with other officers to enhance pension benefits and promote legislation that increases officer safety. Feel free to contact Executive Director Renee Maher at 253-334-1735 or rmaher@compas-wa.org for more information on joining COMPAS.
